ROUNDUP: The Hot New Club Ticket In Town is an NFT
Plus, how to become a VTuber and Japan's war on floppy disks explained.
SHŌ Club bills itself as San Francisco's first NFT-based restaurant. It will serve California-style asian food like sushi as well as Irori cuisine, described as Japanese farmhouse food on a charcoal grill. There will also be a retail market on the ground floor for takeaway food. While anybody can try to get a reservation, members will get priority. SHŌ Club offers three tiers of membership.
2,678 $7500 Earth tier members will get priority reservations, a members-only menu, a members-only lounge and access to special member events once a quarter.
There are 377 $15,000 Water tier memberships, though 50 of those are reserved for folks inside the company. Water memberships add on complimentary valet parking or car service, access to all events, including an exclusive event for the top two tiers and a special monthly omakase dinner reservation. Though you still pay or the food.
Finally, there are 20 Fire memberships for $300,000. Along with everything in the first two tiers, these members get a monthly omakase experience at their home, a share of the restaurant's revenue, a seat on the "Fire Board" and a single trip to Japan.
All the perks are for the lifetime of the NFT, no matter who holds it, except for the trip to Japan-- that one can only be taken once. The restaurant will not issue any new memberships, but you can sell your NFT to someone else on OpenSea using Ethereum. Sho Group gets 10% of the price of the sale of any of its membership NFTs.
The group is also looking at opening additional locations in Las Vegas, Miami and Tokyo. Presumably new NFTs would be minted for those locations, but existing San Francisco members would also get some benefits at those locations.
The San Francisco club is being built in Salesforce Park and broke ground August 19th. They hope to open in autumn 2023. They have a 25-year lease so if all goes well, they'll be around. There will be 300 seats in the restaurant with some reserved for non-members, though they didn't say how many. Memberships will be sold privately first with sales to the public expected to open in September.
SHŌ Club is not the only NFT restaurant either. A seafood restaurant called Dame in Greenwich Village, New York partnered with a restaurant-oriented crypto company called "Front of House" to offer $1,000 NFTs that give you preferential booking when done at least 24 hours in advance. It's called the Affable Hospitality Club. Front of House also offers similar NFTs for other restaurants like Hanoi House and Emmett's on Grove. Gary Vaynerchuck is opening a members only dining club called Flyfish Club in 2023.
